Nestled in the vibrant heart of Madison’s Williamson Street neighborhood, Mickey's Tavern is a quintessential American bar & grill that masterfully blends the charm of an old-school pub with a bright, contemporary spirit. This beloved local hotspot is not just a place to eat—it’s an experience rooted deeply in community, conviviality, and comfort food done exceptionally well.
The menu is carefully curated yet packed with standouts that invite repeat visits. Start your day with their indulgent Eggs Benedict or savor the freshness of the Lox Benedict with Fresh Fruit, each bite delivering a perfect balance of rich, silky hollandaise with tender smoked salmon and tangy citrus notes. For brunch lovers craving something with a twist, the Super Sexy Fries are a revelation—hand-cut, golden fries tossed in fragrant truffle oil, dusted with parmesan cheese, and finished with a hint of crushed red pepper that teases the palate with just the right amount of spice and umami.
For those drawn to heartier entrees, the Mickey Burger stands out as a true classic, juicy and flavorful, available with a traditional beef patty or a hearty veggie alternative to satisfy all cravings. The menu also offers authentic pub comfort fare like the smoked Pulled Pork sandwiches, crispy Fish Fry, and a warming Biscuits and Gravy with Extra Sausage Patty that evokes the essence of Midwestern comfort cooking.
The atmosphere at Mickey’s Tavern is a delightful blend of cozy neighborhood tavern and lively gathering spot, perfect for both quiet conversations and festive celebrations. Regulars like Chad Young appreciate the “legit neighborhood vibe” filled with timeless knickknacks and hidden details that spark curiosity and charm. Whether you’re stopping by for a spirited brunch or an evening wind-down, the friendly, attentive staff ensures you feel welcomed right from the moment you walk in. As Dan Burnett notes, it’s a vibrant setting that “can be loud at times when larger groups take up a room but usually quiet enough for a conversation,” creating a warm and accessible environment for everyone.
Mickey's Tavern also excels behind the bar with an impressive lineup of drinks. Their signature Bloody Mary — especially the one served with a refreshing Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) chaser — and the smooth, celebratory Mimosa set a festive tone, whether it’s a relaxed weekday or a holiday like Christmas Eve, when the tavern fills with seasonal cheer and holiday music, as recalled by H Kari P.
From the rustic charm of the True Blue salad with blue cheese and toasted walnuts to the satisfying crunch of the French Fries and the inventive Hot Chicken Sandwich, Mickey’s Tavern offers a menu that is both comfortingly familiar and thoughtfully crafted. It’s this balance, alongside a genuine passion for community and service, that makes Mickey’s a true Madison staple — a gathering place that feeds not just the body, but also the spirit.
What a legit neighborhood vibe. Cool timeless nick nacks in hidden spaces. Pickles Eggs were on point and amazing. Small & mightly menu pictured.
We came in for lunch on Christmas Eve. There were very festive decorations and music playing softly. The holiday drinks were on point. All three of us enjoyed our meals. The bartender was very busy but kept the drinks flowing nicely. Great experience.
Had brunch/lunch here on several occasions and it is always solid. Service is mostly friendly, and rather quick even when busy. It is a fun atmosphere that can be loud at times when larger groups take up a room, but usually it is quiet enough for a conversation. Really enjoy this spot and understand why it’s a local staple in the Marion area.
Mickey's Tavern is a small bar/pub/tavern on Williamson Street on the corner of Thornton Ave. The place gives off an old school pub vibe, but it's also clean and up to date. I didn't know what to expect when I walked in, but the bartender greeted me immediately and came over to take my drink order. He was back shortly to take my food order. I felt well taken care of. I wound up having the Mickey Burger which includes fried onion strings. I also substituted fries for the chips which come with it for $2.00. I ordered the burger medium rare, and it arrived with the correct amount of pink in the middle. The fries were fresh and hot, which matters a lot. The bartender refilled my soda without having to be waved down, which is a sign of excellent service. Overall I found Mickey's to be excellent, both for the food and the service. If I was forced to give a criticism I would have to say that the burger could have had a little more crust on it. Mickey's does have a small parking lot on the side which seems to fit about 7 or 8 cars. You do have to back out onto Williamson Street when you leave, but it's not a busy section of the road, so you don't have to wait too long. I highly recommend this place.
Hadn’t been in Mickey’s since the 90s when Daithi Wolf et all did their Irish Musical jams. Stumbled into this joint only to discover Michelle Duval Trio with Buddy The Wonderdog lighting up their patio. Had the most lovely post-summer evening dining with My Son on extra-sexy fries that were to die for, cheese curds, a burger with blue cheese. A cocktail for him was a bit too boozy, but my Shirley Temple was on point. Our server was a total doll and just the right mix of cheeky & camaraderie. Owner/manager was attentive as well! What a delightful night!
This is such am awesome place, you have the bar area, the back room area and the patio! We chose the patio. This place is so relaxing! I love the atmosphere! I'm so relaxed and the drinks go down easy, the food is so hot, and delicious! Sorry, I could not help taking a bite! Our server was Jess or Jessica and she is so great and down to earth! I would recommend this place every day! Stopping here before a concert at Atwood Music Hall! Very short walk from here! Plenty of off street parking for the restaurant.
Friendly service! Good drinks! (I didnt try the food). Can get very crowded during shows but generally good vibes. They have a pool table and outdoor seating area. Cute lighting.
I was walking around Madison on a Saturday evening and needed a beer and some food. I saw that Mickey's was close, so I stopped in. The bar seats were occupied, but there were several open tables and I snagged one of those. The decor has a dive bar feel to it, but it was clean. The server was friendly and welcoming. Food and beers arrived quickly. Everything was tasty. Although it appeared to be nice place to hang out, I had other plans. I would definitely come back to Mickey's if I was in the area again.
